Halic University

Haliç University is a private university located in Istanbul, Turkey, which was established on November 23, 1998, with the publication of the law numbered 4324 in the Official Gazette dated January 18, 1998. The university has faculties of Science and Literature, Medicine, Engineering, Business Administration, as well as schools of Nursing, Aquaculture, Physical Education and Sports, and a Conservatory, all of which are under the authority of the Rectorate. Since its foundation, the university has undergone rapid growth and development, with the establishment of various institutes, faculties, and schools. The Graduate Schools of Science and Social Sciences were established by the Council of Ministers on July 22, 2002, and the Fine Arts Faculty was established on July 25, 2003, followed by the Faculty of Architecture in 2006 and the School of Health Sciences in 2007. In May 2016, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) temporarily suspended the university’s operations due to poor management, and its faculty members were transferred to Istanbul University, while the students were able to continue their studies without any problems. The temporary Board of Trustees Chairman of Haliç University was Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak, who is also the Rector of Istanbul University. On May 2, 2019, the Council of Higher Education decided to return the management of Haliç University to its founding foundation, the “Our Children with Leukemia Foundation,” in accordance with Article 26 of the Foundation of Higher Education Institutions Regulation. As a result of this decision, the foundation appointed its own Board of Trustees and Chairman, with Mehmet Naci TOPSAKAL, the Chairman of YENİ YAPI İNŞAAT SAN. VE TİC. A.Ş, as the new Chairman of the Board of Trustees. As of January 22, 2020, Prof. Dr. Melih Bulu was appointed as the new Rector, followed by Prof. Dr. Zafer Utlu on January 18, 2021, after Prof. Dr. Bulu was assigned to Boğaziçi University on January 2, 2021. The university also offers an “.edu.tr” email service to its students.
