Acıbadem Health and Education Foundation started its efforts to establish “Acıbadem University” on June 3, 2002, and the university was founded on May 18, 2007 as a non-profit foundation university. The main goal of the university is to bring together all branches of health sciences and it aims to provide education in non-health fields as well.
Between 2007 and 2009, the university infrastructure and curricula were prepared, and it started education by accepting its first students in the 2009-2010 academic year. It graduated its first students in the 2010-2011 academic year.
The university started education in its temporary campus located in Maltepe in 2009, and moved to its permanent campus in Ataşehir in 2013. In 2014, Acıbadem University Hospital in Atakent was put into service.
In the 2021-2022 academic year, a total of 5,134 students were enrolled, including 1,882 associate degree, 2,842 undergraduate, 248 graduate, and 162 doctoral students. As of 2022, the university had a total of 541 academic staff, including 156 professors, 76 associate professors, 114 doctors, 80 lecturers, and 115 research assistants.
